This Amazing Trailer for THE SQUARE is Completely Crazy!

What the hell did I just watch? That's what you'll be asking yourself after watching this amazing trailer for the movie, The Square, from director Ruben Ostlund. It has been a hit in Europe, where everything makes sense.

Ok, but seriously, I'm not sure what to think of this trailer. Some of it is in English while other is in Swedish with subtitles. It is about art... I think. There are moments of the trailer that are funny. At least... I think it was supposed to be funny. I don't know man! I feel like I'm going crazy trying to make sense of this thing.

Just check it out yourself and try to make sense of it. It doesn't really explain what the movie is about, just some funny and weird scenes, that are absurdist and odd. If I were to guess what this movie was about based on the trailer alone I would go with this:

A man has created a work of art that has the power to turn people into gorillas, one man is already starting to turn into a gorilla, and the rich are amused by it. Meanwhile, the man who made the work of art, called "The Square", gets around with lots of women because he's all charming and shit, while his cook just wants everyone to slow down and eat their food at a good pace.... Yup. Sounds about right. Or if you really want to know, here's the synopsis the the filmmaker has given.

Christian is the respected curator of a contemporary art museum, a divorced but devoted father of two who drives an electric car and supports good causes. His next show is “The Square”, an installation which invites passersby to altruism, reminding them of their role as responsible fellow human beings. But sometimes, it is difficult to live up to your own ideals: Christian’s foolish response to the theft of his phone drags him into shameful situations. Meanwhile, the museum's PR agency has created an unexpected campaign for ”The Square”. The response is overblown and sends Christian, as well as the museum, into an existential crisis.

Check out the trailer below to see if you can make any more sense of it than me. I'm sure what I just said was completely wrong, but only time will tell.
