This Deleted Scene From STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI Features a Different Fate For Captain Phasma and it's Much Better

Thanks to The Star Wars Show, we have a deleted scene that you have to watch giving us an alternate fate of Gwendoline Christie‘s Captain Phasma during her fight with John Boyega's Finn. After having watched this scene, I actually liked how it played out a lot better than what director Rian Johnson ended up putting in the final cut of the film. I'm not sure why he cut it. You can watch it below. It starts at the 1:37 mark:

In this installment of The Star Wars Show, we debut a never-before-seen deleted scene from Star Wars: The Last Jedi, talk with comic book writer Cavan Scott about his previous and upcoming work, report back from a special screening of the Star Wars Rebels series finale, and more!

The deleted scene features a much more dramatic ending to Finn and Phasman's dramatic confrontation. And, of course, Phasma has to get her hand cut off. I liked that Finn points out that Phasma was the one who helped turn off the shields on Starkiller Base and that the revelation causes her to turn on her fellow Stormtroopers and blast them down. She then goes after Finn and Finn ends up blowing her away.

Is Phasma really dead, though? I don't see how she can't be! I'll be surprised if she pops up in Star Wars: Episode IX. When asked by The Times if Phasma would be back, Christie said:

"In truth, I don’t know. And that scares and upsets me because I really want to see this character explored. I’m actually very invested in the character now… And that’s genuine. That’s not just chat. It has opened up a chain of stories and events in my mind about who Phasma is."

If they do bring Phasma back to explore her character more, great. If they don't, I'm ok with her staying dead.

What did you think of the deleted scene and do you think that Phasma should come back in Episode IX?
