THIS IS SPINAL TAP Returning to Theaters This Summer Ahead of Long-Awaited Sequel

Break out the amps and crank them up to eleven becauseThis Is Spinal Tap is making its way back to theaters. This is one of my favorite comedies of all time, and I’ve never seen it on the big screen, so this is exciting!

Bleecker Street and Fathom Entertainment are teaming up to re-release Rob Reiner’s cult classic rock mockumentary for a limited run from July 5-7, giving fans the chance to experience England’s loudest and most punctual band in glorious 4K restoration.

This re-release comes as the perfect warm-up for Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, which hits theaters on September 12. Directed once again by Reiner and featuring Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer reprising their iconic roles, the sequel will see the band reuniting for one final concert after a 15-year hiatus.

While This Is Spinal Tap didn’t make a splash at the box office upon its initial release, earning just under $5 million domestically, its impact on pop culture has been monumental.

The film became a VHS favorite for Gen X, gained a devoted following over the years, and was officially recognized as “culturally, historically, and aesthetically significant” by the Library of Congress in 2002.

The sequel promises to pack in plenty of surprises, including appearances from music legends Elton John, Paul McCartney, Garth Brooks, and Trisha Yearwood. Other familiar faces making cameos include Paul Shaffer, Fran Drescher, Don Lake, John Michael Higgins, Nina Conti, Griffin Matthews, Kerry Godliman, and Chris Addison.

Whether you’re a longtime fan or a newcomer to This is Spinal Tap, this summer’s theatrical re-release is the ultimate way to revisit the legendary faux rockumentary before the band takes the stage once more.
