The NBC series This Is Us has seen critical acclaim in its first four seasons as it tackles the loving, and sometimes tumultuous, relationships we face within our families. The Pearsons are comprised of a mother and her three children in present day, focusing on the growth of their own families, as well as their careers, relationships, and mental health.

The show flashes back to when their father was alive, and flashes forward to what their families will face in the future. The show hits home with its viewers because of the real storylines and the true depictions of family relations. The upcoming fifth season will be no different, as the show will dive into the most prevalent thing we have all faced this year, Coronavirus.

In a recent interview with Deadline in a segment called Deadline Contenders, a fan tweeted at series creator Dan Fogelman and asked a few questions about the upcoming season. One of the most pressing questions included was, “Will the writers address COVID in present day?”. Fogelman responded:

“Yes on Covid. We’ve decided to attack things head on. Very proud of @ThisIsUsWriters.”

Fogelman didn’t get into how the pandemic will impact the characters on the show, but did confirm that the show is still on track for the “same planned ending.” There’s no word on when the series will get back to shooting, or when it will return to our TVs. But it’s cool that they are including this pandemic in the show. If they didn’t it would feel like they were living in a parallel universe. This storyline just builds upon the real world they have created for viewers to enjoy.

Check out Fogelman’s tweet below, and watch This Is Us on NBC when it returns.
