This Middle-Earth Map from Amazon's LORD OF THE RINGS Series Teases a Time When the Rings of Power Were Created

The official Twitter account for Amazon’s upcoming Lord of the Rings series has shared a new map of Middle-Earth. There’s also a website that was launched that will give you a closer look at the map.

One thing that fans might notice about the map is that one of the lands that is named is Calenardhon. For those of you who don’t know your Middle-Earth history, this is the name of the land that would eventually become Rohan, which is the kingdom of Men.

The fact that the maps uses the name, Calenardhon, tells us that this map is showing us Middle-Earth in its Second Age, during the time when legendary the Rings of Power were created. A time when Sauron first rose to power. This is hundreds of years before Aragorn was even born.

Now, there have been rumors that the series could focus on a young version of Aragorn, but maybe that’s not the case. Maybe the series will be set in a time thousands of years before that, which is even more fascinating to me!

Other proof that this is a map of the Second Age is that the two kingdoms of men, Arnor and Gondor, aren’t featured on this map. On top of that, the great realm of the high elves, Lindon, is featured prominently along with Rhun and Khand. These lands have not really been featured as prominently in other maps of Middle-Earth that I’ve seen.

I don’t exactly know what this means, but I really hope that this series dives in an explores this time era of Middle-Earth! This series could be seriously epic!

Star Trek 4 writers JD Payne and Patrick McKay are currently writing the Lord of the Rings series. It will consist of five seasons, and it has a budget of a billion dollars.
