This Recut of TRUE DETECTIVE Season 2 as a Cheesy '70s Cop Show is a Huge Improvement

I don't know about you, but I think the second season of True Detective is a joke compared to season one. I understand the basic plot mechanics of the mystery at play, but so far there's been way too much time spent on crappy characters and not nearly enough time getting into the thrust of the mystery itself. Big shootout scenes can't save you if no one gives a crap about your characters, Nic Pizzolatto. I like Vince Vaughn, but he sounds like he's just reading lines every time he speaks; there's no sense that he is embodying a character. And Taylor Kitch's self-hating closeted gay cop? Gimme a break.

There have been a handful of decent moments so far in this season, but I'd much rather have seen the True Detective season 2 that Vulture has envisioned in their latest remix, which mashes up images from the show with some images from cheesy '70s cop shows like Starsky and Hutch. (Warning: there's spoilery imagery from last night's episode if you haven't caught up yet.)
