This Video Explores the Foley of MORTAL KOMBAT 11

Foley artists are greatly underappreciated, I think. I was better introduced to the world of foley in some audio classes in college, and it blew me away how awesome that world is. We don’t think about how movies, TV shows, or even video games create the sound effects that we love. Well, a new video from VICE News actually takes us behind-the-scenes on creating sounds for Mortal Kombat 11. Before we go any further, the video shows in-game footage that gets very graphic. This is NSFW. If you get squeamish, you might be fine as long as you look away when they pull out the actual game bits. You have been warned.

If you twist a bell pepper in just the right way, it sounds like someone's chest cavity being ripped open. A lot of non-gamers may not be aware that Mortal Kombat is still being produced. In the early 90s, the game was at the bleeding edge of realistic digitized violence, and the franchise was so controversial that Congress held hearings about it.
