Thomasin McKenzie, Bill Nighy and James Norton Star in Teaser for Netflix Film JOY About the Creation of IVF
Netflix has released a teaser trailer for their upcoming film Joy, starring Thomasin McKenzie (Jojo Rabbit, Last Night in Soho), Bill Nighy (Love Actually, About Time) and James Norton (Grantchester, Little Women). The movie tells the story of the doctors who engineered the process of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). The film is directed by Ben Taylor (Chevy, The Circuit, Raised by Wolves) from a screenplay written by Rachel Mason and Jack Thorne.
The film’s synopsis reads:
Joy tells the remarkable true story behind the ground-breaking birth of Louise Joy Brown in 1978, the world’s first 'test-tube-baby', and the tireless 10-year journey to make it possible. Told through the perspective of Jean Purdy, a young nurse & embryologist, who joined forces with scientist Robert Edwards and surgeon Patrick Steptoe to unlock the puzzle of infertility by pioneering in vitro fertilisation (IVF). The film celebrates the power of perseverance and the wonders of science as it follows this trio of visionaries who overcame tremendous odds & opposition to realize their dream, and in doing so allowed millions of people to dream with them.
I don’t think many people know how this medical procedure came about, and it looks like this film will do a great job to tell the groundbreaking historical story. Check out the teaser below, and keep an eye out for the release date of Joy, due to hit Netflix this summer.
