THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER Director Taika Waititi Says The Film Could Include Jane Foster's Breast Cancer Storyline
Director Taika Waititi is still in the process of developing the story for Marvel’s Phase 4 MCU film Thor: Love and Thunder. But, in a recent interview with Variety, the filmmaker said that Jane Foster’s breast cancer battle storyline could make it into the film. He explained:
"I think that’s a really powerful part of the books. I think it’s really cool that she’s fighting this thing and there’s two battles going on. Personally I really love that storyline. But whether it ends up in the film is yet to be seen."
It would definitely be a heavy subject matter to tackle, but a subject matter that would mean a lot to a lot of people. It would be a hard storyline to cover in a single film, though, and in regards to possibly including the storyline, Waititi says, "We’re not sure if we’re going to do a complete lift of that whole storyline.” He goes on to talk about how some things pulled from the comics in these Marvel films end up on the cutting room floor:
"These things change through the shoot and even when we’re editing sometimes. Like, ‘Let’s get rid of that storyline where she’s got breast cancer. We’ll change it to something else, or maybe she’s fine.'"
We’ll just have to wait and see what Waititi does with Jane Foster’s storyline, but one thing is for sure, it will be awesome to see her pick up Mjolnir and become the Mighty Thor!
Thor: Love and Thunder is reportedly going to start shooting early next year with a release date set for November 5th, 2021. Natalie Portman is set to reprise her role in the film along with Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, and more.
I personally think that they should include the breast cancer storyline. What do you think?
