THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER Early Concept Art Reveals Original Ending Was Way Darker
Thor: Love and Thunder was a very fun return to the franchise with returning director Taika Waititi. It featured a pretty dark villain with Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher, who was out to do the job clearly stated in his name, with Chris Hemsworth’s Thor in his sights. He captured the children of Earth’s Asgard and held them captive to lure in the God of Thunder.
But while things turned out well for the good guys in the end, things almost got a lot darker. Some concept art was shared by artist George Hull that depicts a scene from the first draft of the film, and what played out there is a doozy.
Hull explained in the Instagram post:
These THOR concept paintings are just a few I created for the director & team as they considered different options for the final act in the film… (Christian Bale’s Gore character trying to enter Eden using Thor’s axe, the use of the shadow cages and creatures, etc.) The early script had the children’s souls as necessary to enter Eden, but In the end Taika chose to simplify the story and settings for the better. My job is to explore various options and possibilities during this early imaginative phase. Thanks @taikawaititi for the fun times!
