THOR: RAGNAROK Director Taika Waititi Reveals an Alternate Post-Credits Scene

There was another post-credits scene that was shot for Thor: Ragnarok but it was never used. It's the second after-credits scene that involves Jeff Goldblum's The Grandmaster. After the credits roll, we see The Grandmaster being confronted by a group of angry citizens on junk piles of Sakaar. He applauds them for their revolution and takes credit for it by saying that there could have been no revolution if they didn't have anyone to revolt against.

Director Taika Waititi has confirmed in a new recent interview with Collider he shot a different version of the ending that would have taken The Grandmaster to Earth! He explains:

"We were determined to not have too many of them. The thing [with Loki and Thor], that was the thing we did in reshoots. It was a last minute decision. And the other thing at the end, with The Grandmaster, was something we shot on Gold Coast that was something I planned for a long time. It was either going to be that or it was going to be Topaz and Grandmaster stowing away on the ship."

It would have been interesting to see The Grandmaster stow away on the ship with the rest of the Asgardians. It definitely would have opened up more of an opportunity to use The Grandmaster again and even see him interacting with Thanos. However, the scene that we ended up watching still left the door open for anything to happen. I'm sure he'll eventually return, we just don't know how or when.

The director goes on to say that this alternate scene might show up on the special features of the home entertainment release. He also offers some additional details on what The Grandmaster says:

"That could be on the DVD in the deleted scenes, those two in the crowd of the Asgardians and he pushes through and goes, ‘I’ve never heard of this Earth place but… We got to keep a low profile.’ And they kind of put these blankets over their heads and disband into the crowd."

I hope we get to see it! But I hope that we get to see The Grandmaster return in some capacity at some point in the MCU even more.
