Sony Pictures is finally looking to move forward with their big screen adaptation of the live-action He-Man film Masters of the Universe. They've hired Christopher Yost to write the script for the film. This is a great choice for the franchise!

Yost is a solid writer who is currently co-writing Thor: Ragnarok with Craig Kyle for Marvel. He's also previously worked on shows such as X-Men: Evolution, The Batman, Hulk Vs., The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Thor: The Dark World, and more. He has also written several comic books.

Previous drafts of the Masters of the Universe script were written by Terry Rossio (Pirates of the Caribbean franchise) and Jeff Wadlow (Kick-Ass 2). I've enjoyed the work of Yost over the years, and I think he's the right man for the job. If anyone can harness the powerful awesomeness of He-Man, it's Yost.

The story is set on the planet of Eternia, and it follows a warrior named Prince Adam who has the power to transform into the powerful He-Man. The villain of the tale is Skeletor, and he is hell-bent on conquering a fortress known as Castle Grayskull in order to learn the secrets held within.

The He-Man and the Masters of the Universe cartoon ran from 1983-85 and it was one of my favorite shows as a kid. I never missed an episode, and I owned a huge collection of action figures. I'm even a big fan of the campy live-action adaptation that starred Dolph Lundgren and Frank Langella.

I've been wanting to see a new He-Man film for years, and it's a project that has been in and out of development for way too long. With Yost on board, I hope that this is the attempt where it actually happens.
