Thor Reportedly Playing a Major Role in AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY

Big things are brewing for the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the next two Avengers movies start to take shape. With Avengers: Doomsday currently in production under the direction of Joe and Anthony Russo, fans are eager to know which heroes will take center stage.

Now, a new report claims that the God of Thunder himself, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, might be a key player in this massive event.

According to The Town with Matthew Belloni podcast, Hemsworth’s Thor is rumored to be the “second lead” in Avengers: Doomsday.

If true, this would mark Thor’s biggest role in the wider MCU since Avengers: Endgame and that’s saying something.

While official plot details remain locked down, this rumor suggests the character is far from done shaping the fate of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

Of course, it’s important to take this with a grain of salt for now. Marvel hasn’t confirmed anything, and the secrecy around this film is intense. But given Thor’s history and enduring popularity, it wouldn’t be surprising if the studio wants him front and center for another universe-shattering showdown.

This report might come as a surprise to those who thought Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards would be leading the Avengers. That theory gained traction after The Fantastic Four: First Steps director Matt Shakman made comments that fans interpreted as Richards taking a leadership role.

However, Pascal later told Entertainment Weekly that Shakman’s words were “taken out of context.”

So, while Richards is still expected to play a major role in Doomsday, it sounds like Thor might actually be the driving force behind the story.

One thing we do know for sure, this movie is going to be huge. The roster for Avengers: Doomsday reads like a comic book fan’s dream team.

In addition to Hemsworth and Pascal, the cast includes:

  • Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm / Invisible Woman

  • Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson / Captain America

  • Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes / Winter Soldier

  • Letitia Wright as Shuri / Black Panther

  • Paul Rudd as Scott Lang / Ant-Man

  • Wyatt Russell as John Walker / U.S. Agent

  • Tenoch Huerta Mejía as Namor

  • Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm / The Thing

  • Simu Liu as Shang-Chi

  • Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova

  • Kelsey Grammer as Hank McCoy / Beast

  • Lewis Pullman as Bob Reynolds / Sentry

  • Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres / Falcon

  • Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm / Human Torch

  • David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov / Red Guardian

  • Winston Duke as M’Baku

  • Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr / Ghost

  • Tom Hiddleston as Loki

  • Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier / Professor X

  • Ian McKellen as Erik Lehnsherr / Magneto

  • Alan Cumming as Kurt Wagner / Nightcrawler

  • Rebecca Romijn as Raven Darkhölme / Mystique

  • James Marsden as Scott Summers / Cyclops

  • Channing Tatum as Remy LeBeau / Gambit

If that lineup doesn’t scream “multiverse madness,” nothing does.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters on December 18, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars following on December 17, 2027. These two films are expected to serve as the ultimate culmination of the Multiverse Saga, much like Infinity War and Endgame closed out the Infinity Saga.

If Thor truly takes on a massive role in this first film, fans could be in for some epic God of Thunder moments leading into the next big showdown.
