I'll keep the review of Thor: The Dark World spoiler free, and basically just tell you how freakin' awesome it was! That's right folks, Marvel and director Alan Taylor made one hell of a badass Thor movie! If you liked the first one, you'll love this, as it's bigger, better, and the scope was just epic! On top of all that it had a great story. As the title implies, it's much darker than the first movie, but it had some fun, light humor that I'm sure most of you will enjoy.
As we've seen in the trailers, you can tell that there's a grittiness to this sequel that we didn't see in the first film. You can definitely see the hand of the director in this film, and he brought a style and tone to it that I would love to see carry on through the other Thor films that will be made. And make no mistake, we will see more Thor films! This movie did an amazing job setting up some really interesting dynamics for future films. I'm very excited about the potential for those films.
The movie definitely had its share of jaw-dropping "wow" moments. There were a lot of things I didn't see coming, a lot of fun and interesting twists and turns. Don't worry, I won't say what they are, but nothing that we've seen in the trailers, clips, or TV spots have hinted at many of them. It was also packed with a lot of intense emotional moments. Like with Iron Man 3, Marvel did a great job concealing some really cool things that the fans are sure to love.
The special effects and action sequences in the film were top notch. The effects have never looked better in a Marvel movie, and the action fight sequences were insanely cool! This definitely wasn't a boring movie, and you see Thor get his ass kicked like you've never seen it kicked before… unless you saw the fight scene in the Marvel animated film Hulk Vs. Thor. But this is live action, and it's pretty fun watching Thor take a beating. Thats not a spoiler! This beating was bound to happen sometime! Then, of course, there's the climatic end fight sequence that is kind of mind-blowing for the fact that it takes place through out the…. ah shit, if I told you it would be a complete spoiler, and some of you would rip me a new one for saying anything. So guess what? You're just going to have to watch it for yourself, but just know that it's spectacular!
Ok, so the movie as a whole was great. It's not going to let Marvel movie fans down as it delivers on all levels of awesomeness. My least favorite part of the movie though was the mid credits scene which connects the universe to James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy. I won't tell you what happens, but unfortunately, for me it was a let down. It didn't fit the movie, it was just done in a really odd way that didn't fit the style and tone of Thor at all. I know there was a better way to have done what they did, but it was executed badly and seemed out of place. The very end credits sequence, however, was a little more rewarding so make sure to stay until the very end.
Just a little note on the some of the characters and acting. You already know the cast of the film are going to give fantastic performances, and they do. I also just want to point out that Zachary Levi as Fandral was perfect casting, and of course, Tom Hiddleston once again steals the show as Loki. so you have that to look forward to!
So get out there and see Thor: The Dark World when it's released on November 8th! The movie was made for you, the fans, and you're going to love it!
