Thor's Stormbreaker Weapon Will Behave Like an Unruly Adolescent in THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER
Thor is going to find himself in some very interesting and heavy situations in Thor: Love and Thunder! As he tries to leave his superhero life behind him, he gets sucked right back into a situation where he has to save the universe from Gorr the God Butcher. On top of that, Jane comes back into his life as The Mighty Thor, and she’s wielding his old hammer, Mjölnir. There’s no doubt that Thor’s going to be having all kinds of complicated feelings.
While he would love to get his old hammer back, he’s been kicking ass with his awesome Stormbreaker weapon. But, it turns out that Stormbreaker is going to be giving Thor some issues as well. According to director Taika Waititi, Stormbreaker is going to be having some adolescent mood swings. He explained:
"Now that relationship, those exes, yeah. That again was something that was really cool because in my mind Stormbreaker, because, you remember the handle of Stormbreaker is made from Groot's arm. So in some ways it's like it's been infused with that and it's part of that, and Groot's a teenager. And I sort of felt like because the weapon's a young weapon, that it should be behaving like an adolescent. And so that's why it's so unruly and unpredictable."
That’s certainly going to make for some fun moments in Thor’s new story. I love that the battle axe is going to have its own personality quirks. It’s going to make Thor’s journey just that much more difficult.
The film finds Thor “on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher, who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie, Korg and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster, who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.”
The movie stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, a.k.a. Mighty Thor, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, director Taika Waititi as Korg, Russell Crowe as Zeus, Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Dave Bautista as Drax, and Pom Klementieff as Mantis.
Thor: Love and Thunder opens in theaters on July 8th, 2022.
