Thoughts on the Meaning Behind THE RISE OF SKYWALKER Title

I am so excited for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker! I cried out of excitement while watching that trailer. When the title of the film was revealed, at first I was a little bummed because I immediately thought the title was saying that Rey was going to turn out to be a Skywalker. Personally, I hate that idea. I want Rey to be from nobody parents. However, I then thought a bit more about the title and I realized something. The titles are never that straightforward in Star Wars! So, I thought some more and here are a couple of thoughts I’ve had (and I’m sure some of you have had these as well) about what “The Rise of Skywalker” could mean.

My first theory is that this is referring to Ben Solo, aka Kylo Ren, who is the last of the Skywalkers that we know of. It is very possible that The Rise of Skywalker will end with his redemption. The rise in the title could be referring to said redemption by the character. I’m not in love with this theory, but I’m not ruling it out, because it is plausible.

My second theory is the one I love the most. My guess is that Skywalker will become a title like Jedi. Rey is effectively the last of the Jedi. However, she may have learned something from Luke and the giant books she stole about the Jedi and it’s possible that she will use that knowledge to raise a new order and call them Skywalker after the family that helped show her that balance is needed. I would imagine this order being closer to feel in grey Jedi and less like the formal Jedi Order that we’ve come to know.

Now, could I be wrong? Most definitely. I would not be surprised to find out that I’m wildly off from what the title is referring to. This was just a fun thought I had and I want to know what you think the title could be referring to.

The Rise of Skywalker will be in theaters on December 20.
