Three Actors Up For The Role of Goose's Son in TOP GUN: MAVERICK
We previously learned that one of the main elements of the plot of Top Gun: Maverick would involve the son of Maverick's (Tom Cruise) co-pilot Goose (Anthony Edwards), who was killed in the first film. THR is now reporting that there are three actors who are up for the role and those actors include Nicholas Hoult (X-Men), Glen Powell (Everybody Wants Some) and Miles Teller (Thank You For Your Service).
These are all great actors and I'd be happy to see any one of them get the role. Goose's son is named Wrigley and these are the details about how the character will be utilized in the story:
Bringing Goose’s son into the film and into a relationship with Maverick is a bold step, but one that Cruise is banking on but not in the way some might think. From what we know, Goose’s son, Wrigley, and Maverick will NOT be having a mentor/mentee or father/son dynamic in the film; in fact, it appears they’ll have more of antagonistic relationship when the film begins, which could play off of a “you killed my dad” scenario.
I like that Goose's son will play a role in the story, it will be a way to keep the memory of Goose alive. The relationship between Wrigley and Maverick should certainly make for great story dynamic. Here's a description of the Wrigley that was previously released:
All-American good looks. Rode a football scholarship to an Ivy League degree. He is in love with Sugar. He distrusts Maverick and dislikes what he stands for, although they have a lot of similarities. Eventually, comes to respect Maverick and uses his techniques. He is forced to eject in enemy territory and Maverick comes to save him.
After reading that again, it seems like Glen Powell might be the best choice. The character just seems to really fit his onscreen persona. What do you think? Who would you like to see cast in the role?
Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy) is directing the film and Val Kilmer is to reprise his role of aviator Tom “Iceman” Kazansky,
