Three Thanksgiving TV Show Episodes to Get You Pumped

Thanksgiving is this week. It is a holiday to celebrate everything that we’re thankful for and gorge ourselves on delicious food. It is also a holiday that doesn’t see a lot of TV episodes based on it. At least not compared to say Christmas or Halloween. I imagine a good part of that is that Thanksgiving is not an international holiday and thus would have very little significance when aired in other countries. That said, some shows do it, and they do it phenomenally, so here are my top 3 Thanksgiving TV show episodes. This list is in no particular order, and I have limited it to one per TV show.

3. “Turkey Day” – Boy Meets World

Boy Meets World is one of my favorite shows from growing up. This episode is a highlight because it shows the tension that can arise when two worlds collide. Cory and Shawn want to bring their families together for Thanksgiving, but the differences in their economic status creates a lot of tension between the families and the other members of the Hunter’s trailer park. Of course, towards the end the kids end up having Thanksgiving together after a series of events. This is not the funniest episode on the list, but it is the most heartwarming.

Shawn: You know, Cory, for once, I think our ignorance may be working for us. Cory: What? You mean if we knew better, we wouldn't be friends? Shawn: Yeah, so I'm glad we don't know better. Cory: Yeah, me, too.

2. “Slapsgiving” – How I Met Your Mother

This episode centers around the group having Thanksgiving together after Lily and Marshall have gotten married. Robin decides to bring her new friend Bob to dinner which of course puts Ted on edge, and the cherry on top of this mayhem is Marshall bestowing the third slap to Barney from their slap bet. What makes the slap the best part is the drawn-out anticipation that Marshall puts on Barney by sending him a countdown of when the slap will occur. Of course, the musical number “You Just Got Slapped” isn’t so bad either.

Marshall performs an original ballad in tribute to the slap he delivers to Barney! A Classic!

1.    “Dawn of the Peck” – Bob’s Burgers

I love the Belcher family. Their crazy antics are always fun to watch and this one is no different. Starting out with everyone except Bob forsaking tradition to go participate in the “Turk-tacular Turkey Town Festival” at the Wharf, they soon find out that the pecking order is out of whack and this has caused the birds to go crazy. Back home, Bob gets a little drunk and is oblivious to the craziness that is going on outside of his house, while going through a crisis of what will happen to Thanksgiving, his favorite holiday. This parody of Jurassic Park is a fantastic way to celebrate Thanksgiving for everyone.
