Tilda Swinton's Anti-HARRY POTTER Stance Revealed!
The divine Tilda Swinton, who recently dazzled as the Ancient One in Doctor Strange, has recently taken a stance that is sure to draw ire from the geek community: she thinks the Harry Potter films are damaging to children. But don’t be dismayed! She isn’t opposed to depictions of magic or witchcraft or anything. She just hates boarding school.
The actress attended boarding school herself, The West Heath Girls School, also attended by Princess Diana, and she calls it a “very lonely and isolating environment,” going so far as to call her time there “hell.” She told The Scots Magazine:
“That’s why I dislike films like Harry Potter which tend to romanticize such places. I think they are a very cruel setting in which to grow up and I don’t feel children benefit from that type of education. Children need their parents and the love parents can provide.”
Sounds like her time at school was more like Hogwarts under the petrifying reign of Dolores Umbridge than the warm and inviting place created by Albus Dumbledore. Hopefully, parents who decide to send their children to boarding school make the decision with more care than just thinking, “Boy, that quidditch seems fun!”
