Tim Allen Confirms the Level of Emotion We Can Expect From TOY STORY 5 Compared to the Rest of the Franchise
Fans of the Toy Story movies know the drill by now. Toy Story 2 tugged at our heartstrings when we learned about Jessie’s backstory and heard the Sarah McLachlan song, “When She Loved Me.”
Then Toy Story 3 came along, and we sobbed seeing the crew nearly destroyed, and again when they said goodbye to Andy. Part of this sadness was many fans believing this was the final chapter of Toy Story.
But then the fourth film came along, and despite naysayers who were concerned about another film erasing the solemnity of Toy Story 3, fans were happy with the story and touched again when the toys parted ways and said goodbye to each other.
Now we are about to see Toy Story 5, and star of the franchise Tim Allen, who voices Buzz Lightyear, is giving fans a heads up about what to expect from this movie. In an interview with ComicBook, Allen and Tom Hanks (Woody) were asked how this movie compares in terms of emotion to the previous films, and Allen said:
“Because it’s fresh in my mind. I’m giving it number one because it’s constant. The other movies, the almost dying in the fire pit. That was hard to watch. Lovely to see the resolution. In Four when we said goodbye to each other.”
Hanks, agreed, saying, “That was huge.” Allen went on:
“That… was a dramatic thing all the way through. Not dramatic like this thing, with these moments where you’re going ‘Oh, God. That’s horrible!’ They totally took me out of an animated film.
“I bought it. Bonnie – the acting of that scene and the acting of Jessie looking at her when she’s carrying her. I was overwhelmed… So this is a real emotional piece. In waves all the way through it.”
This is pretty much what I’ve come to expect from the Toy Story films now, but I don’t mind it at all. The films deliver on laughs, tears and genuinely good storytelling. I just got my tickets to see Toy Story 5, and I can’t wait to see what this sequel brings.
Toy Story 5 hits theatres on June 19th, and tickets are available now.
