Tim Allen Reveals TOY STORY 5 Will Be a Jessie Story and Offers New Details on Woody and Buzz

Fan are hoping that Toy Story 5 turns out to be something special, and according to Tim Allen, this one is going to put Jessie in the spotlight. The actor behind Buzz Lightyear recently appeared on Live with Kelly and Mark and gave fans a small but exciting tease of what’s coming.

"It's such a great story. I can only tell a little bit of it," Allen said. "It's a Jessie story, Tom and I have to reunite, and there's just the funniest thing, because there's a whole bunch of Buzzes involved. And there's a reason why there's a whole bunch of me, so there's 100 of me in a separate story, and I'm having so much fun."

That’s a pretty wild tease, especially considering where we last left the toys. Toy Story 4 ended with Woody staying behind with Bo Peep and the lost toys while Buzz and Jessie went back to Bonnie.

The emotional split between Woody and Buzz felt like the perfect ending, but it makes sense to bring the characters back together for this story. Throw in a story centered on Jessie, plus the chaos of 100 Buzzes and Woodys, and this sequel sounds like it’s taking the franchise into some new directions.

The movie has been in development since it was first announced in 2023, though updates have been pretty scarce. What we do know is that technology will play a big part in the story. Bonnie is getting a new gadget: a tablet called Lilypad, voiced by Anna Faris.

"I think it'll be surprising," Pixar’s chief creative officer Pete Docter said back in 2023. "It's got some really cool stuff that you haven't seen before."

The cast for Toy Story 5 also includes Joan Cusack as Jessie, Ernie Hudson as Combat Carl, Tony Hale as Forky, and Conan O'Brien as Smarty Pants.

It’s clear Pixar has big plans for this next chapter as Jessie finally stepping into the lead role is long overdue, and with Woody and Buzz reuniting, hopefully, this sequel will deliver both the heart and humor fans have come to love.

Toy Story 5 hits theaters on June 19, 2026.
