Tim Burton Says He Almost Quit Making Movies Before BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE Came Along
Tim Burton has had a long and crazy successful career as a director and he’s made some incredible, wonderful, and entertaining films.
I’ve always been curious to see what he cooks up for his movies, but apparently, before Beetlejuice Beetlejuice came along, he almost quit making movies.
During an interview with /Film, Burton was asked whether there were "any other of [his] movies or creations" he wanted to perhaps make a sequel to.
He responded: "No. In fact, I think I would say the opposite, in a funny way. Because I've done that a little bit, and I feel if I do something next, I mean I don't know what I'm going to do, but I want to do something where... I think I almost got out of making movies after my last one. Because I just didn't feel this whole studio thing.”
The last film Burton was made was Dumbo for Disney back in 2019, and that must have not been the best experience for him.
After that he moved to TV and developed Wednesday, and when talking about that he said: "I went off and did a TV thing, just did Wednesday in Romania just to kind of re-cleanse, so to speak, or re-energize, whatever, sort of a thing.
“So I had no burning desire to make the sequel or anything. I just wanted to make this movie. So I think I've re-calibrated the way I'm going to approach things in the future."
So, making Beetlejuice Beetlejuice reinvigorated him as a director, which is great! I would hate to see Burton stop making movies as I’ve always enjoyed his storytelling and design style.
