Tim Miller and Simon Kinberg Discuss DEADPOOL and SPIDER-MAN Crossover
Earlier this month, we learned that Deadpool director Tim Miller and X-Men: Apocalypse writer/producer Simon Kinberg were actually trying to make an effort to get Sony and Marvel to share Spider-Man with the X-Men universe. One of the main reasons for this would be to see Spider-Man and Deadpool together in some kind of crazy adventure. I would love nothing more that to see this crossover happen, but let's be honest...it's a long shot.
Miller and Kinberg are still talking about it, though, and they are keeping the dream alive. While talking to Comic Book Resources, Miller says that he's "ready for it, but that the studios are not ready for it." So it sounds like they may have actually approached the studios see if they would at least entertain the idea. Kinberg goes on to say:
"We would love it. I mean, Tim and I talked about it quite a bit. We grew up on comics that did it all the time, quite freely. Not just within the Marvel Universe, but outside the Marvel Universe. So it’d be rad to see it. Those decisions are made by people at a much higher part of the food chain than Tim and I — we just go execute it.
"But yeah, we would love it, and we certainly each have a really good relationship with Kevin Feige. Maybe one day there’s a sit-down, “Godfather”-style dinner where we could broker a deal. It’d be cool."
I do like that Kinberg is optimistic that one day a serious discussion could happen about bringing Spider-Man and Deadpool together. Of course, it's something the fans would love to see, but who knows if it will ever happen. Never say never! The fact that Marvel and Sony worked out something to include Spider-Man in the MCU proves that anything is possible if people all work together for the greater good.
