Tim Roth on Why Returning to Play Abomination in SHE-HULK Was a Challenge; Calls His Co-Stars "Extraordinary"

Oscar-nominated actor Tim Roth (Rob Roy, Pulp Fiction) is returning to Marvel after 14 years to reprise his role of Emil Blonsky/Abomination in the Hulk series, She-Hulk. Joining the MCU at this point is a whole new playing field, and the actor who plays Hulk has even changed in that time. It was an easy choice for the actor to return (once he ran it past his family), but it wasn’t a seamless transition back into the role. Roth recently sat down with ScreenRant, and he explained:

It was extraordinary. They gave me a buzz and said, "Do you fancy it?" And I was like, yeah, yeah, why not? Again, I ran it by the boys and they're like, "Just do it." And so jumped in and into it, but I found it initially - which I think it's a positive as an actor - I found it difficult. Just for the first couple of days. I was like, "Okay, what do I do?" and "How does this work?" Because I watched Marvel movies. I love watching them. When I'm traveling and stuff like that. Big Logan fan, big Deadpool fan, all of that. Fantastic stuff. But how do you do it? What's the language of it? And I think there's a similarity with Resurrection, too, in that you have to figure out a way.

He’s a fantastic actor, so I have no doubt he found his groove, and we will see that in the series. One aspect of making the series that he talked about fondly in the interview was watching his fellow stars, Tatiana Maslany and Mark Ruffalo, do their thing. He said:

"I had very little to do on the first few days of filming started so I was just watching the world. It's incredible. Mind-boggling. And watching Tatiana, that was extraordinary. Wow. And then I had a couple of days early on in the schedule with Tatiana and Mark Ruffalo and watching them interact and play - it was a penny drop moment to me. "Oh, that's what you do." And then I could jump into the world. And so it's actually watching them bounce off each other and play around because they're already deep into filming. Mark had years on it. That's what gave me and then I went "Oh my god." And then it's playtime, you know? Yeah. And it was real playtime. And we had so much fun. I absolutely loved it."

I can’t wait to see this series! I didn’t know what to expect from it at first, but the trailer got me really excited. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law premieres on Disney+ on August 17th. Are you looking forward to it?
