Time to Go Back to Fantasy School with STRIXHAVEN: A CURRICULUM OF CHAOS for DUNGEONS & DRAGONS

Dungeons & Dragons launched their latest book recently and this time, we’re going back to school. Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos takes players to the magic university of Strixhaven which provides a great setting for people interested in a setting similar to but totally different from Hogwarts and others. Amanda Hamon took charge of the project as lead designer. Strixhaven looks like a lot of fun and perfect for bringing classic teen comedy films to life in your D&D games. Some tweaking will need to occur in order to account for magic, non-humans, and the fact that most of those movies take place in high school and not college, but the principle is what matters.

The book offers a new Race called the Owlin which are humanoid owls. Owlin can fly, have darkvision, can be Medium or Small, and are proficient in Stealth. Plus, they’re based on owls which can be freaking adorable. There are also new feats, spells, backgrounds, and magic items for players to enjoy.

The book also features new options that can be implemented including jobs and extracurricular activities. These are optional, but will definitely add some extra flavor for the theme of being in school. There are also exams and report cards for players. It’s a really nice touch.

Of course, inside the book is also a campaign designed to take players from level 1 to level 10 and takes the players through all four years of university. If you want to play around in this setting, it’s a great way to just dive in and get your bearings.

If you play D&D virtually, you can grab the book including all the adventure module stuff from Roll20 and it’s pretty cool. You get the necessary tokens and handouts for digital use. I will say that for the Tracking Sheet (for jobs, grades, and relationships), the DM will want to create a duplicate for each player and make sure that the player has access to their sheet and can edit it.

You can purchase Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos from your favorite retailers with cover art by Magali Villeneuve or the alternative cover with gorgeous art by Hydro74 exclusively through your local game store.
