Timothée Chalamet and Robert Downey Jr. Are Jokingly Calling AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY and DUNE 3 "Dunesday" Reminiscent of "Barbenheimer"
This is a big year for cinema, as fans have some exciting titles coming our way from DC, Disney, Marvel and more. One of the biggest weekends of the year will be December 18th, wherein Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three will both be releasing to eager audiences.
Some are saying this is the next “Barbenheimer,” the weekend when Barbie and Oppenheimer were released on the same day, and two of the films’ stars are leaning into the comparison.
Robert Downey Jr., who is returning to the MCU after dying as Iron Man, now taking on the mantle of the villainous Doctor Doom, and Timothée Chalamet of the Dune trilogy, sat down for a Q&A event for Chalamet's new movie Marty Supreme in Los Angeles, which was later posted on X (via GamesRadar).
Downey joked about the pair’s upcoming head to head movie release, "We've decided to coin it. We're thinking Dunesday. We'll see if we're still friends by then."
Downey was in Oppenheimer, so he knows the effects of the hyped-up double feature first hand. The 2023 buzz around Barbenheimer ended up spiking sales for both films as the marketing made it popular to make the unlikely duo a double feature. Maybe Dunesday will gain some traction and fans will follow suit.
Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three will be released in theaters on December 18, 2026.
