Timothée Chalamet Is Unstoppable in New Trailer for MARTY SUPREME
The second trailer for Josh Safdie’s upcoming A24 drama Marty Supreme cranks up the ping pong intensity, giving audiences a deeper look into the wild, obsessive world of Timothée Chalamet’s table tennis prodigy on his rise to greatness.
Set to Tears for Fears’ iconic “Everybody Wants to Rule the World,” the new trailer dives straight into the turbulent life of Marty Mauser, a gifted yet erratic athlete with his eyes set on becoming the best.
The footage opens with Gwyneth Paltrow as Kay Stone, a glamorous movie star entangled in Marty’s chaotic orbit. While dressing in a hotel room, she challenges him on his pursuit of success, asking how he plans to make a living off his dreams.
“I live with the confidence that if I believe in myself, the money’ll follow,” Marty says.
When pressed on what happens if things don’t go his way, he fires back without hesitation: “That doesn’t even enter my consciousness.”
That mix of confidence and delusion seems to drive the film’s energy. The trailer teases scenes of Marty and his confidant, played by Tyler, The Creator, diving into underground gambling rings, cleaning up at local tournaments, and wading through a dangerous world of shady deals, explosions, and close calls with the law.
Set in the 1950s, Marty Supreme paints a gritty and stylish portrait of ambition and obsession, blending the rhythm of sports drama with the unpredictability that’s become Safdie’s trademark style.
While the story is fictional, it draws inspiration from the life of real-life ping pong legend Marty Reisman, a New York showman famous for his swagger and quick wit.
The film also features a supporting cast that includes Odessa A’zion, Penn Jillette, Kevin O’Leary, Fran Drescher, Sandra Bernhard, and Abel Ferrara.
Marty Supreme looks like a gritty, eccentric dive into the price of perfection and the madness that comes with chasing greatness.
It hits theaters on Christmas Day.
