Timothée Chalamet Officially Set to Play Willy Wonka in WB's WONKA
A few months ago we learned that Timothée Chalamet (Dune) and Tom Holland (Spider-Man) were up for the role of Willy Wonka in Warner Bros. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory prequel film, Wonka, that will give us the origin story for the insane candy maker.
Well, Timothée Chalamet has officially been cast in the role! The new film is based on the classic characters created by Roald Dahl, and the story will focus on a young Willy Wonka and his adventures prior to opening the world’s most famous chocolate factory.
Chalamet will get to show off his singing and dancing skills in the film as there are several musical numbers being planned. Gene Wilder will always be the best version of Wonka, but Chalamet is a talented young actor, and I’m curious to see what he does in bringing this younger version of the character to life. It will be interesting to see if he will actually be able to tap into that insane and witty madness that Wilder brought to Wonka.
The film will be directed by Paul King (Paddington) from a screenplay he wrote with Simon Farnaby. The script for the film was also previously worked on by Simon Rich, Simon Stephenson, Jeff Nathanson, and Steven Levenson. David Heyman is producing.
What do you think about Chalamet taking on the role of Willy Wonka?
