TITANS Star Brenton Thwaites Explains How His "F*ck Batman" Line Sets The Tone For The Whole Show

Thanks to EW, we have two new photos to share with you of Robin in DC Universe’s Titans. Actor Benton Thwaites also talks about everyone’s favorite line from the trailer that was released. How can anyone for get Robin demolishing people and then saying “fuck Batman.” That line got a lot of backlash from the fans and for most people it was a cringeworthy moment. When talking about that, Thwaites explains that the line was meant to set the tone for the whole series:

“We’d already shot that alley fight scene before, and there was no punch to it. There was no real exclamation mark. I think the producers wanted something that would kind of set the tone for the whole show.”

It obviously didn’t have the effect on fans that the producers were hoping for. but the actor goes on to say that the line was seen as the best way to put across that the Titans series is not going to be a show about Batman:

“It’s a show that isn’t about Batman, and I think it’s important for people to know that and maybe not be disappointed that they’re not going to see Batman jumping from the ceiling and beating up a hundred guys, because it’s not Batman, it’s a story about the Titans, essentially. I feel like ‘F— Batman’ says that in two words.”

Do the producers of the series not know their audience? Obviously not. I feel like the title of the series, “Titans”, sums up in one word that this series is going to be a story about the Titans and not about Batman.

They just wanted to get a rise out of people with the “fuck Batman” line. They all loved it and thought it was going to be cool, but in the end it just blew up in their faces.

Titans premieres on October 12th on DC Universe.
