To Develop The SPAWN Movie on a Low Budget Todd McFarlane and The Actors Won't Be Paid

It seems like a lot of fans have been worried about this new Spawn film that is being directed by Todd McFarlane because it is going to have such a low budget. I've heard that budget will be around $10 million dollars, but the creative team is going to stretch that money as much as they can to give fans the best film possible. I think if it's done well, it could open up more opportunities for other low-budget comic book films.

For those of you who have read the comic Spawn, you know that the world has a very epic setting. That setting involves Hell, demonic creatures, and a bunch of other things. From reading about what McFarlane has said about his film, it's going to be very different from the comics, and although Spawn will be one of the main characters, the other main characters that the story will focus on is Twitch.

In a recent interview with Comingsoon, producer Jason Blum talked about how they planned on making their small budget work for the film. One of the things that the creative team agreed on is that none of them will be paid out of the budget, which I thought was pretty cool. It's not like they need the money anyway! They're all freakin' rich! Blum Said:

"One of the things is we’re keeping the scope of the script relatively contained, so that’s the biggest way. I think the other way is he and I aren’t paying ourselves any money out of the budget nor will any of the actors, so that’s another way. We’re using our usual tricks!"

I'm sure they'll all get paid by getting a percentage of the film's cut after the movie is finished and released in theaters. Blum was then asked about how he thought McFarlane was going to adapt his singular style to the movie, and this was his response:

"I think he’s gonna do a great job. Being a director encompasses a lot of different skills, but one of the most important skills is you have to be a great manager. You’re kind of a General of this army that you have to lead into battle every day, and he does that in his life every day running McFarlane Enterprises. So I think that translates to directing in a lot of ways. We’ve had a great back-and-forth around developing the script. I wouldn’t have done it if I didn’t think he could do a great job, but we’ll see. I have a good feeling about it."

McFarlane has never directed a film before, so it will certainly be interesting to see what he does with this movie. I really hope that he knocks it out of the park, and gives us an awesome Spawn movie, but only time will tell. McFarlane previously shared his excitement for the opportunity to make the movie saying:

“We’ve gone from the theoretical to now we’re making movies. Blumhouse. Spawn. Badass. R. Get ready for it, we’re going into production. No more talking, it’s time to do.”

It'll be cool to see how this movie turns out! Are you excited about the new Spawn film? To catch up on all the news regarding this film production, click here.
