Toby Kebbell Joins CATEGORY 5, a Heist Thriller/Disaster Film Combo
It's been twenty years since that unfortunate cow was caught up in that tornado in Twister, and now Rob Cohen — the guy who brought you Dragonheart, The Fast and The Furious, and xXx — is combining the disaster genre with a heist film for a new film called Category 5.
Toby Kebbell has come on board as one of the film's stars, and you can read the official synopsis below:
A team of young tech hackers infiltrate a U.S. Mint facility to steal $200M in cash, just as a disastrous Category 5 hurricane – the worst storm ever recorded in the U.S. – is about to strike and level the town to the ground. The only other two people left, WILL, a meteorologist, and CASEY, a treasury agent, must survive the horrific storm, save Will’s brother BREEZE and stop the thieves from getting away with the heist of the century.
Kebbell was in last year's disappointing Fantastic Four reboot and appears in the ill-advised Ben-Hur remake later this year, but he's also been great in movies like Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and shows like Black Mirror, and he has Warcraft and Kong: Skull Island coming soon. He seems like he's still working hard in supporting roles, and I wonder if this film will push him a little closer to leading man territory (if that's even something he's interested in at this stage in his career).
Scott Windhauser and Rob Cohen wrote the screenplay, so we'll see if they can manage to successfully combine enjoyable elements from both of these genres and create something that stands on its own as a solid piece of entertainment. No release date is in place yet, but we'll keep you updated.
