Toby Kebbell Only Wants to Play Doctor Doom Again If It's in a Marvel Studios Film

When 2015's Fantastic Four came out, I tried to give it the benefit of the doubt. But now that we're a couple years removed from its release, I can make an extremely bold proclamation about it that no one on the internet has ever said before: guys, Fantastic Four is not a very good movie. Even Toby Kebbell, an actor I really like, couldn't do much playing the iconic villain of Doctor Doom, because his motivations were cut to hell in the editing room. It's really better if we all try to forget that movie exists in the first place.

When HeyUGuys spoke with Kebbell at the premiere of Kong: Skull Island (via io9), the actor said he wasn't going to reprise his role in a Fantastic Four sequel:

"I won't be in it...listen, the truth is, Doom is an incredible bad guy. They just keep trying to force him into the Fantastic Four, you know what I mean? They just need to move it out. Because he smashes up Thor and Iron Man — they get wasted...Doom is a monster, but my Doom was not. So that's that."

But he perked up a little when asked if he'd play the character in a Marvel Studios film:

"Yeah, if they lend him out like a footballer...they do it with Spider-Man. Iron Man turns up in Spider-Man [Homecoming]."

Kebbell's comment is certainly not going to overturn the fact that Fox currently holds the rights to Doctor Doom and has no plans to relinquish them to Marvel Studios, but let's put that aside for a second. Doom would actually be a pretty amazing villain in the MCU, especially since the studio will presumably be looking for a new big bad following Thanos' presumed defeat at the end of the second Infinity War movie. I suppose production on the next Avengers film after that two-parter is still a few years away, so technically there might be enough time to possibly work out a deal with Fox. After all, it did happen with Sony and Spider-Man.

What do you think? Would you like to see Doctor Doom face off against whichever Avengers survive their epic battle with Thanos?

Jackson, John C. Reilly and Toby Kebbell were in attendance, along with the film's director Jordan Vogt-Roberts.
