Todd McFarlane Officially Announces His SPAWN Movie is Moving Forward With Blumhouse
Todd McFarlane has been talking about making his new live-action Spawn movie for years and years! He's been giving us a lot of script updates over the past few years, but he finally finished it and now he's officially moving forward with it! He announced at Comic-Con that Blumhouse will be producing the film with him. This is the same studio behind The Purge, Paranormal Activity, and The Belko Experiment.
Oh yeah, I should probably mention that McFarlane is actually directing the movie! When talking about McFarlane coming on to helm the film, producer Jason Blum said:
"Having worked with many visionary directors, I think Todd's unique artistic talents will only add to his role as director of this film."
The official announcement for the movie describes it as a "dark exploration of one of comics’ most popular characters." Seriously guys... I never thought this would happen. McFarlane has been talking about this for so long it just seemed like nothing would ever come of it. But... something did come of it and now it's moving forward with a solid studio helping it along.
This next Spawn movie will be nothing like the 1997 movie that was made. This will be more of a dark horror, suspense, supernatural R-rated thriller. McFarlane previously described the film as a combination of The Departed and Paranormal Activity. He's also said Spawn will be lurking in the shadows and will have more of a Jaws type vibe.
Even though it's taken so long to get to this point, I'm actually super excited that it's happening. I love McFarlane's concept for it, now I just hope that he can actually pull it off as the director.
