Todd McFarlane Wants to Resurrect His SPAWN/BATMAN Crossover Sequel

In 1994, Todd McFarlane teamed up with Frank Miller to create a crossover comic featuring Spawn and Batman. Miller wrote it, and McFarlane created the art. It was a pretty big deal, and the comic turned out to be pretty badass. In case you missed that, here's a story summary:

Batman comes to New York City in his search for an arsenal of high-tech weapons and robots that use decapitated human heads as their brains. Antagonistic, confrontational and suspicious of each other, Spawn and Batman engage in violent battles before realizing they are both after the same villain. Grudgingly, they decide to work together. The person they seek has been kidnapping and decapitating the homeless for use in the robots, but that’s only part of the plan: There is also a nuclear arsenal ready to be deployed.

There was a follow-up comic planned a few years later, but unfortunately it never happened. He even brought on comic artist Greg Capullo to work with him on it, and this was a time when Capullo had no experience with the Dark Knight. McFarlane talked about this and sais that he wants to eventually resurrect the Spawn/Batman sequel. He said:

"We had the first one Frank Miller and I did, that did pretty well. Then years later we announced another one that I was going to do and Greg Capullo was going to draw. Then Greg ends up being the pre-eminent Batman artist of the last few years, so we were sort of ahead of the curb. Maybe we'll resurrect that when the time's right. I think that both of the characters visually fit with each other, and I think that there's enough character differences that it's not just the same guy in a different suit. The story I pitched them was about how all the opposites -- character flaws if you will. Hopefully someday I can find an opening there to do that myself."

I'd love to see him do this! But with McFarlane, who knows if it will ever happen. Remember, the guy has been talking about doing a new Spawn film for years, but it still has yet to happen. Maybe he'll get around to making the new Batman/Spawn comic after he makes his Spawn movie! If you didn't catch that, that was sarcasm.
