Toho's SHIN GODZILLA Sequel Won't Happen Until After 2020
I enjoyed the hell out of Toho's Shin Godzilla! I've been wondering when we might see a sequel and unfortunately, we're going to have to wait a long time.
The deal that Toho ended up making with Legendary Pictures to make Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong prevents them from making a sequel to Shin Godzilla until after those movies are released. This means we're going to have to wait until after 2020 before we see it happen.
Shin Godzilla co-director Shinji Higuchi recently spoke at G-Fest XXIV saying, explaining:
“A lot of people have questions. ‘When is the next Japanese Godzilla movie coming out?’ They cannot make it until after 2020.”
That's a bummer and a shame. Even though I'm excited about Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla Vs. Kong, I'd be way more excited about a seeing a sequel to Shin Godzilla. If you haven't seen Shin Godzilla yet, you need to! It's so much fun!
