Tokyo Disneyland is Giving THE HAUNTED MANSION Attraction an Anime Re-Theme
Tokyo Disneyland is looking to give a little backstory to The Haunted Mansion thanks to a new initiative called Disney Story Board which will give original rides updated lore. They are starting with The Haunted Mansion and their creative team is going to give the attraction an anime re-theme. That’s right, the Haunted Manion and its cast of characters will be getting anime-style designs.
The story that they are looking to tell will revolve around Constance Hatchaway. It’s explained that “guests will be challenged to solve a special mystery surrounding the characters including Constance, a beautiful woman in a wedding dress with a powerful ambition and multiple strings of pearls draped around her neck, and Xavier and Z.J., a butler and maid in the employ of the mansion inhabited by the 999 ghosts.”
The story will also involve some ghostly dancers, Marylyn Ohara and Harland, and a tight-rope walker named Sally Slater, along with three hitchhiking ghosts Phineas, Ezra, and Gus. The Haunted Mansion will also welcome a new ghost called The Withering Gentleman.
The re-theme won’t really impact the ride itself, but The Haunted Mansion will overhaul other parts of its attraction to make way for the Disney Story Board. In addition to the mystery-solving aspect of the story, guests can take photos with the characters thanks to an AR smartphone program. There will also be new Haunted Mansion merch on sale at the park.
Fans will be able to see this re-theme up close starting January 26th before it wraps at the end of March 2023.
