Tom Clancy's THE DIVISION Film Will Now Be Helmed by RED NOTICE Director Rawson Marshall Thurber
John Wick and Deadpool 2 director David Leitch is no longer directing the film adaptation of Tom Clancy’s The Division. Collider is now reporting that Leitch will now only serve as a producer on the movie and that it will be directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, the man behind Skyscraper and the upcoming Netflix action-thriller Red Notice.
The Division is a high-priority project for Netflix, and Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain are both attached star and produce it. It’s been explained that they have been "persistent in making sure that it matches the tone of the video game, while also reaching audiences who appreciate the actors’ own past work."
The story for The Division is set in the wake of a devastating pandemic that sweeps through New York City, basic services fail one by one, and without access to food or water, the city quickly descends into chaos. Chastain is a talented actress and this seems like it could be a fun project for her. There are no details on the character that she will be playing, but I'm sure we'll learn more if she ends up being officially cast.
Gyllenhaal will play an agent working with the Strategic Homeland Division tasked with helping to rebuild the Division’s operations in Manhattan, investigating the nature of the outbreak, and combating criminal activity in its wake. There are currently no details on the character that Chastain will be playing.
The initial script for the film was being written by Rafe Judkins (Wheel of Time), but he’s no longer involved. Thurber will now co-write the script from scratch with Ellen Shanman.
I would have loved to see Leitch direct this movie, but I’m sure that Thurber will deliver something that fans will enjoy.
