Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt Almost Appeared as Vampires in WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS Series

It hasn’t even been a full year since What We Do in the Shadows wrapped up its six-season run. The FX series delivered some hilarious vampire comedy blending fun absurdity, comedic wit, and some great cameos.

But as it turns out, there were two legendary actors who almost joined the undead fun… Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt.

At Dublin Comic Con, series stars Harvey Guillén (Guillermo) and Kayvan Novak (Nandor) sat down with Geek Ireland and spilled some behind-the-scenes secrets. It’s there they revealed the show almost secured two of Hollywood’s most famous vampire alumni.

"Like, for the vampires, we were gonna get, like, other [famous] vampires. Brad Pitt was supposed to join, [as was] Tom Cruise. Those were people that we were like, 'Whoa, we're gonna get them?' 'Yeah if it works out.’"

Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, reprising their Interview with the Vampire roles as Lestat and Louis in What We Do in the Shadows? It would’ve been a hilarious all-time great cameo moment! It’s a shame that it didn’t happen.

The show was no stranger to impressive guest stars, with Guillén recalling how much fun they had working with people like Haley Joel Osment and Mark Hamill. But when it came to scheduling high-profile cameos, things didn’t always work out.

"There were guest stars that were almost guest stars that, after the first season, we had so many people who wanted to join and come play with us, who we really almost had, but [due to] scheduling conflicts, that didn't work out."

Even though Cruise and Pitt never made it to Staten Island, just the idea of them sharing the screen with Laszlo, Nadja, Nandor, and Colin Robinson is enough to send fans into a spiral of what-if scenarios.

The show may be over, but What We Do in the Shadows remains one of the best things Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement have ever brought to life.
