Tom Cruise Says He Will Never Stop Acting: “I’m Going to Make Movies Into My 100s”
Tom Cruise runs a lot in the movies that he stars in and now he’s running straight into his 100s with zero intention of slowing down. In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the 62-year-old action icon made it clear that he has no intention of ever retireing. Cruise said:
“I actually said I’m going to make movies into my 80s. Actually I’m going to make them into my 100s. I will never stop. I will never stop doing action, I will never stop doing drama, comedy films. I’m excited.”
This passionate declaration came in response to a question about his past comments on pulling a Harrison Ford and keeping the Mission: Impossible franchise going into his later years. Cruise previously said:
“Harrison Ford is a legend, I hope to be still going, I’ve got 20 years to catch up with him. I hope to keep making Mission: Impossible films until I’m his age.”
Ford, of course, was 80 when he dusted off the fedora for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. Cruise still has some time before hitting that milestone, but it sounds like he's aiming to leave Ford in the dust, at least when it comes to longevity.
That said, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning might be Ethan Hunt’s final descent. Or maybe not. Cruise coyly told THR: “It’s not called final for nothing,” leaving fans speculating if the end is truly nigh for the death-defying agent.
Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, The Final Reckoning is a direct follow-up to Dead Reckoning, with Hunt now facing off against an AI villain known as The Entity. The film even into legacy, connecting to some of the franchise’s greatest hits.
But while Ethan Hunt may be headed for a curtain call, Cruise certainly is not. He recently wrapped production on a new, untitled film directed by The Revenant’s Alejandro Iñárritu and has been teasing potential sequels for Days of Thunder and Top Gun: Maverick.
Whether he’s jumping off cliffs, racing stock cars, or flying jets at Mach 10, Cruise is clearly not interested in stopping. Cruise is redefining what it means to be an action star with no expiration date.
