Tom Cruise Wants MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 7 and 8 to Wrap Up the Franchise
Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible 7 is still over a year out from hitting the big screen, but Mission: Impossible 8 is not far behind it, aiming for an 11-month gap between the two films. The movies were set to kick off back to back filming schedules back in February, 2020, but we all know how that turned out.
The film’s faced major pandemic-related delays, and set us on the course we are on now. But it’s important to Cruise that 8 is finished filming before 7 is released, because he says the 7th film ends with a cliffhanger and he doesn’t want to leave audiences hanging on for too long, especially considering that these two films will wrap up the Cruise’s run as the star of the Mission: Impossible film franchise.
The eighth film is about to go into production in South Africa. Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie tend to shoot their films in real locations, not on soundstages or in front of green screens, which presents its own challenges in terms of keeping costs low and its sets COVID-free. And of course, Cruise being known for upping the ante on his action pictures, had to produce some never-before-seen stunts for the final films.
In Mission: Impossible 7, we will see the actor drive his motorcycle off a cliff in Norway. “This is far and away the most dangerous thing I’ve attempted,” Cruise told Variety, adding, “I wanted to do it since I was a little kid.” If nothing else, Tom Cruise is an exciting actor to watch, and it’s fun to hear what he’s attempting with every new film. It sounds like these final films will be action-packed and a great send off for the fans.
Mission: Impossible 7 is set to hit theaters on July 14, 2023, and Mission: Impossible 8 is due on June 28, 2024.
