Tom Cruise's Secret to Doing His Hardcore Death-Defying Stunts: 50 Pairs of Thong Underwear

Tom Cruise is arguably Hollywood’s biggest star. He’s known worldwide, almost everyone can name at least a couple of films of his that they love, and at 60 years old, the four-time Academy Award-nominated actor is still pumping out hits, and is showing no signs of slowing down.

Cruise is widely known as kind of a strange guy. While he is known to hang out on the red carpet for hours to sign autographs, take pictures, and record messages on people’s phones, he’s also known for being a Scientologist who jumps on Oprah’s couch, and is generally a super-intense dude. In the autobiography of his The Outsiders co-star, Rob Lowe, the actor wrote about meeting Cruise for the first time, and he said that even as a young adult, Cruise knew exactly what he wanted from the industry and his career, settling for nothing less.

It has obviously paid off, but as Cruise has made his mark in the action film genre over the past few decades, the actor has one on-set quirk that is just kind of strange and hilarious!

In a recent article from BuzzFeed, it’s explained that when Cruise is working on one of his death-defying stunts in the action films he’s known for, he is most comfortable pulling off these feats in “G-strings or thongs thanks to the stretchy soft material.” 

Since figuring out that this works best for Cruise, he asks the wardrobe departments on his films to stock 50 or so thongs so he'll always have a fresh one to jump into and around in when he needs to.

This is a head-scratcher for me. I have never thought of a thong when I’m thinking of the pinnacle of comfort. But to each his own! If that’s what’s making Cruise jump higher and fly further, Godspeed.

The actor will next be seen in Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One in theaters this summer on July 14th, and Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two is set to bow on June 28th, 2024.
