TOM HANKS in Talks to Play Geppetto in Disney's Live-Action Pinocchio

Among the list of Disney movies getting the live-action treatment is the classic animated 1940 film, Pinocchio. The story tells the tale of the woodworker Geppetto, desperate for a child of his own, whose wooden boy puppet Pinocchio comes to life and must prove himself as a real boy.

The only info we have so far is that Paul King, director of the Paddington movies, will be directing, with Chris Weitz (About a Boy; Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) writing.

But today we have our first bit of casting news. Tom Hanks (Forrest Gump; Philadelphia; Saving Private Ryan) is in negotiations to play the role of Geppetto. I think this is great news, because in my opinion, everything Hanks touches is gold. He is one of my all-time favorite actors, and I think he would bring a gentleness to the role that Geppetto definitely embodies.

Hanks is a big Hollywood player who is very busy and comes at a high price, so I’m really hoping they can secure him. But it’s Disney we’re talking about, so I don’t think there will be a problem. I’m excited about this movie, and I can’t wait to hear more info as it comes.

What about you? Who else can you see cast in Pinocchio?
