Tom Hanks is Back in Talks with Disney To Play Geppetto in Robert Zemeckis' Live-Action PINOCCHIO Film

Two years ago it was reported that Tom Hanks was in talks to play Geppetto in Disney’s live-action remake of Pinocchio. At the time, Paddington director Paul King was attached to direct the movie. Well, now Robert Zemeckis is helming the film, and Hanks is back in talks with the studio to star in his version of the film. According to Deadline, the actor is in early negotiations.

The report goes on to say that Hanks has read the script and he personally reached out to Zemeckis to let him know he wants to be in the film. Hanks and Zemeckis have worked together in the past which include films such as Forrest Gump, Cast Away, and The Polar Express. It would be nice to see these two talents work together again!

Pinocchio is one of my favorite Disney films, mostly because of how disturbing it is. That movie messed me up as a kid! Especially that terrifying scene where Lampwick turns into a jackass! I hope this live-action version of the film contains the same darkness that the original movie had.

The script for the movie is being written by Chris Weitz (The Golden Compass, Rogue One). The story tells the tale of the woodworker Geppetto, desperate for a child of his own, whose wooden boy puppet Pinocchio comes to life and must prove himself as a real boy.

Hanks is a great choice for Geppetto and I’m pretty confident that we will see him in the role. Hanks is currently shooting the Elvis Presley biopic at Warner Bros.

What do you all think about Hanks taking on the role of Geppetto?
