Tom Hanks Talks Hopefully About His Future Voicing Woody in the TOY STORY Franchise

Toy Story 5 is opening in theatres this week, and just like with Toy Story 4, it’s a film the fans did not see coming. The third and fourth films in the franchise felt like finales, but the creators had more story to tell, and fans know now that these sequels aren’t just made for the sake of another, but in celebration of great animated storytelling.

The stars of the film agree, and Tom Hanks, who voices Woody in the movies, said in a recent interview that he’d love to keep returning for as long as it makes sense.

"When Woody left [Toy Story] 4, he went off with Bo Peep. And they keep finding these abandoned toys. He will do this for the rest of existence. Dare I say it, I hope the same is true for my job playing Woody," he adds with a laugh. "How much longer can we keep doing this, to be welcomed back into the fold?"

Each Toy Story movie explores a new dilemma for the toys, and the fifth film sees them take on tech, which threatens playtime. Director Andrew Stanton is clear that for another movie to happen, this central idea has to be right. "Every new movie, we don't know there's going to be something else to say," he explains. "This took time to come into the world, for us to embrace it."

I can’t wait to see Toy Story 5 this week, and if the future of the franchise means another sequel down the road, I trust the filmmakers to bring us another installment.
