Tom Hanks WWII Film GREYHOUND Getting a Sequel Set to Expand to D-Day and the Pacific Theater

Tom Hanks is officially returning for a sequel to his World War II naval film Greyhound for Apple Films. Production is now gearing up for a January 2026 start in Sydney, Australia, with Hanks once again wearing multiple hats: starring, writing the script, and producing under his Playtone banner alongside longtime collaborator Gary Goetzman.

Director Aaron Schneider, who helmed the first film, is also back in the captain’s chair. The new chapter will pick up with Captain Krause and his crew after the harrowing events of Greyhound, following them from the beaches of Normandy to the vast, perilous waters of the Pacific Theater.

Expanding the scope of the story, the sequel promises to explore the broader turning points of WWII, showing Krause and his shipmates battling to shift the momentum of the war on multiple fronts.

Talks are currently underway to bring back key cast members from the original film, including Stephen Graham, who has been earning serious acclaim lately thanks to his performance in Netflix’s Adolescence. While no deals have been finalized yet, sources say there’s strong optimism that most of the major players will return.

Originally released in 2020, Greyhound was based on C.S. Forester’s 1955 novel The Good Shepherd and followed Krause, a relatively inexperienced U.S. Navy commander, as he led an Allied convoy across the treacherous Atlantic while being relentlessly hunted by a German U-boat wolfpack.

Alongside Hanks, the first film featured standout performances by Rob Morgan and Elisabeth Shue, helping bring to life the desperate tension of the Battle of the Atlantic during the early months of America’s entry into the war.

The sequel marks another major Apple Original from Playtone, which continues to expand its WWII storytelling legacy. Hanks and Goetzman most recently teamed up with Amblin Entertainment on the critically acclaimed series Masters of the Air, which captured another side of the war’s global battles.

With Greyhound 2, fans can expect an even more expansive and thrilling continuation of Captain Krause’s story, one that will sail into even more dangerous and uncharted waters.
