Tom Hardy is Rumored For the Role of Jafar in Disney's Live-Action ALADDIN Film
An interesting rumor has surfaced regarding a major piece of casting in Guy Ritchie's live-action adaptation of Aladdin. According to The Sun, the director has approached Tom Hardy for the role of the main villain Jafar. According to an inside source:
“Guy is a huge fan of Tom’s work and securing him would be a major coup. There have been conversations and, although nothing is set in stone and things are subject to change, he’s certainly one of Guy’s favoured choices. It just depends on schedules whether he’ll be able to sign up.”
As much as I love Hardy as an actor, this rumor just seems pretty far-fetched. One major issue with the casting that a lot of people will point out is that Hardy is not Middle Eastern. It's previously been reported that Disney would be casting Middle Eastern actors in the lead roles of the film and this would go against that. Who knows, though, maybe they made an exception with Jafar. They are also reporting that the top choice for the role of Princess Jasmine is currently, Jade Thirlwall, who is a member of the British girl group Little Mix. She definitely looks like Jasmine! I just have no idea if she's a good actress or not.
The only other actor that's been mentioned regarding the cast is Will Smith, who is up for the role of the Genie. They more I think about that casting, the more I think he actually might be able to effectively pull it off.
As for Hardy in the role of Jafar, I just don't see it. He doesn't seem like a Jafar kind of guy. What do you think, though? Can you see Hardy in the role of Jafar?
