Tom Hardy Reveals His Venom Is Inspired By UFC Champion Conor McGregor

Tom Hardy’s Venom already has its fair share of critics based on the few trailers that have been released, but for all the criticisms the film has received prior to release, few have has a gripe about Tom Hardy’s portrayal. The actor recently revealed the inspiration behind his Eddie Brock, and revealed his character was inspired by UFC champion Conor McGregor and one other famous celebrity (via TMZ):

There were more elements of Eddie Brock which needed to be pinned on somebody who's incredibly handy physically. And, obviously, Conor is incredibly handy physically. There was an aspect the studio wanted somebody who could fight, which they always do in these sort of hero movies. They want somebody who can have a scrap. Conor obviously wants to have a scrap with everybody, so that's useful. But then, there were elements like the neuroses of Woody Allen. So, if you put that and Conor together, there was that too.

Conor McGregor and Woody Allen is an…interesting combination. I suppose that’s the kind of range an actor would need to have to play Eddie Brock accurately, although that’s a mighty tall order to fill! That said, Tom Hardy is a pretty damn good actor so I have faith he can deliver a solid performance. We’ll all see when the film is in theaters October 5th!
