Tom Hardy Stays With MOBLAND as Season 3 Moves Forward After Behind the Scenes Issues Are Resolved
Fans of MobLand can breathe a sigh of relief because it looks like the show's core trio isn't going anywhere. After reports surfaced last month that Tom Hardy was on the verge of leaving the hit Paramount+ crime drama, things have apparently been worked out, putting the series back on track with Hardy set to return alongside Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan for the expected third season.
According to Deadline, Hardy's future with the series had become uncertain after tensions between the actor and writer, executive producer, and showrunner Jez Butterworth reportedly reached a point during production on Season 2 where the two could no longer work together.
The situation had many fans wondering what the future of MobLand would look like without one of its biggest stars. Thankfully, that uncertainty didn't last long.
Over the past several weeks, efforts were made to repair the relationship, and those conversations eventually opened the door for Hardy to remain with the series. Mirren even publicly showed support for Hardy on social media, signaling that there was hope the situation could be resolved.
The turning point reportedly came during a recent meeting in London involving Hardy, Butterworth, and executive producer David Glasser.
Sources say the meeting was productive, with everyone reaching an understanding on how to move forward together. Executive producer Guy Ritchie also reportedly played a role in helping smooth things over, leading to Hardy officially returning to the series full-time.
It's easy to understand why everyone involved wanted to make this work. The chemistry between Hardy's Harry, Mirren's Maeve, and Brosnan's Conrad has become one of the biggest reasons audiences have connected with the series.
Changing that dynamic would've been a major shake-up for a show that has quickly become one of Paramount+'s biggest successes.
A writers room for Season 3 had already been assembled before Season 2 even premiered, and with everything now settled, the new season is reportedly being written with Harry, Maeve, and Conrad remaining at the center of the story.
While Paramount+ hasn't officially announced a Season 3 renewal, it's widely expected to happen. The crime drama earned a second season after delivering the streamer's second biggest original series launch, trailing only Landman.
Hardy's return also makes contractual sense. The actor is believed to have signed a three-year deal when the series began, making his continued involvement the expected outcome once the disagreements were resolved.
The behind the scenes conflict first came to light last month, with reports claiming there had been friction during production, including allegations of chronic lateness on Hardy's part. Some reports said he was fired. By the time those reports surfaced, Season 2 had already wrapped production aside from a handful of reshoots.
Along with Butterworth, Ritchie, and Glasser, series creator Ronan Bennett also serves as an executive producer.
Produced by 101 Studios and Paramount TV Studios, MobLand follows two powerful crime families whose escalating war threatens to destroy their empires and everyone caught in the crossfire.
With Hardy, Mirren, and Brosnan all expected to return, it looks like MobLand will keep the family power struggle intact for another season.
