Tom Hardy to Play Legendary Explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton in a New Biopic Titled SHACKLETON

Tom Hardy is set to play legendary polar explorer, Sir Ernest Shackleton, in a new biopic that’s in development titled Shackleton. David Heyman’s Heyday Films is producing the project. They are behind the Harry Potter franchise, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Gravity, Marriage Story, and more. Dean Baker is also a producer on the project, and he said in a statement:

“Tom and I were always fascinated by Shackleton as a leader and his contagious optimism and absolute belief in his team. At a time where leaders seem to be more about self than society, Shackleton sacrificed his own needs to ensure the wellbeing of his team – thats inspirational.”

In case you aren’t familiar with Shackleton, he led British expeditions to the Antarctic over 100 years ago. During one of his adventures, his ship, Endurance, was crushed in the pack ice, and Shackleton led his crew on a months-long journey in sub-zero temperatures until they reached solid ground. The guy is a true badass, and Hardy is the perfect actor to play him.

The movie is being written by Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and The Men Who Stare at Goats scribe Peter Straughan. I’m excited to see how this turns out! What do you think about Hardy taking on the role of Shackleton?
