Tom Hiddleston Says KONG: SKULL ISLAND is Doing "Something New With The Myth"

With the recent announcement that Godzilla vs. King Kong is being released in 2020, a little more light has been placed on the upcoming Kong: Skull Island movie that will be hitting theaters in 2017. Like I have never said before: if you have any questions, ask Tom Hiddleston. So, someone did.

Variety had a chance to talk to Hiddleston at the premiere of Crimson Peak, and they were able to ask about his role in Kong. This is what he had to say:

"It’s not set in the ’30s. There’s no movie director with a map. There’s no out-of-work actress down on her luck. All of that stuff is respected, we’re just trying to do something new with the myth because Kong is an icon of movies. I think he’s someone people want to see again."

This goes right along with the rumor that the story will take place in the '70s. Hiddleston also had a lot to say about the film’s director Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ (The Kings of Summer) take on the iconic ape, saying he has “come up with the most incredible, deeply imaginative context for [King Kong] to exist in.”

I am truly interested to see what Vogt-Roberts, Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, and Hiddleston can do with this new take on King Kong.

Do you think that shying away from the familiar story will help or hurt the upcoming film?
